In this part of the wiki we will offer a listing and description of conferences in which some or all of the content focuses on humanities computing and other types of digital projects in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies.

Conferences in 2006

July 13-17 (Izhevsk, Russia): Sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Education and Sciences, this conference will feature panels on subjects such as the "Textological, paleographic, and linguistic problems of informational technology and computer modeling" and on technologies "for producing electronic full-text collections and libraries" and for "access to and navigation within electronic libraries"--and much more. Several workshops will be conducted on themes such as "Meta- and analytic descriptions of manuscripts and early printed books" and "Web modules for accessing collections and full-text data bases." Organizers invite librarians, software developers, researchers, educators, and graduate and undergraduate students to attend. June 17-18 (Urbana, Illinois, USA): This conference is under the sponsorship of the Ralph and Ruth Fisher Forum, an annual event scheduled by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Summer Research Laboratory. "The 2006 Forum (and pre-conference events) will celebrate the achievements of book arts, culture and the media in Russia, East Europe & Eurasia, and discuss political challenges. It will also probe access mechanisms and research approaches facilitated by technology. International experts will join younger practitioners in providing a comprehensive overview of the field." June 14-16 (Bansko, Bulgaria): This is the 10th annual international conference on electronic publishing, held in Bulgaria this year in celebration of the country's 50th anniversary of its admission to UNESCO. A variety of workshops, tutorials, panel debates, and presentations are in store, and keynote speakers include Herbert Van de Sompel, one of the inventors of the Open Archives Initiative's Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH)."

Oct 24-27, 2005 (Sofia, Bulgaria): "Themes of the conference include applications of information technologies in the humanities; computer processing of old and modern Slavic languages and texts; description, analysis, and edition of Slavic sources with computer tools; Unicode and electronic publishing."
